India and Japan Sign Historic Defence Pact; PM Modi Unveils 10 Trillion Yen Investment Vision
India and Japan have taken a major step toward strengthening their strategic partnership after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level talks with Japanese leader Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi. The meeting resulted in the signing of a new defence cooperation agreement, reinforcing bilateral ties in regional security, defence technology, and economic collaboration.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi outlined India's ambitious goal of attracting 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment by 2036. The proposed investment roadmap is expected to accelerate growth across key sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, clean energy, digital technology, and innovation.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region while promoting a free, open, and rules-based international order. The agreement is expected to deepen collaboration in defence equipment, joint military exercises, and strategic technologies.
Apart from bilateral relations, the leaders also exchanged views on pressing global issues. Discussions included the ongoing West Asia crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with both sides emphasizing the importance of dialogue, regional stability, and peaceful resolution of international disputes.
The meeting marks another milestone in the growing India-Japan strategic partnership, highlighting shared interests in security, economic development, and regional peace.
