Russia-Ukraine War Escalates: 419 Drones Target Moscow, Crimea Faces Fuel Rationing

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has once again reached a highly dangerous stage. Over the past 48 hours, both countries have launched large-scale aerial attacks against each other, causing significant damage not only to military installations but also to civilian areas and critical energy infrastructure. Ukraine targeted Russia's energy network and strategic facilities, while Russia responded with heavy missile and drone strikes on several Ukrainian cities and frontline positions.

Ukraine Launches Largest-Ever Drone Attack on Moscow

Ukraine reportedly carried out its largest drone assault on Russia to date as part of its alleged "40-day offensive strategy." According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed a total of 419 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight. Of these, 61 drones were shot down in the airspace over Moscow.

The continuous attacks prompted emergency flight restrictions at all major Moscow airports, disrupting hundreds of domestic and international flights.

Six-Month-Old Baby Killed by Falling Drone Debris

In the village of Yegoryevsk, southwest of the Moscow region, debris from a downed Ukrainian drone reportedly crashed into a residential house. Local authorities said a six-month-old baby died while being transported to the hospital, while two adults suffered serious injuries.

Russia Launches Retaliatory Strikes Across Ukraine

Hours after the attack on Moscow, Russia launched a series of large-scale missile and drone strikes across several regions of Ukraine. Russian forces targeted Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro.

Russian defense sources claimed that two Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jets were destroyed before they could take off. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as "terrorism against civilians."

FPV Drone Hits Civilian Minibus in Zaporizhzhia

According to reports, a Russian FPV (First-Person View) drone struck a civilian minibus in the Zaporizhzhia region. The attack reportedly killed several people, bringing the total civilian death toll in the area to more than 12.

Energy Crisis in Crimea: Emergency Measures and Fuel Rationing

Ukraine has also dealt a significant blow to Russia's energy sector during the conflict. Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly ignited major fuel storage tanks at the Slavyansk Oil Refinery in southern Russia and Russian-controlled Crimea.

Following the attack, conditions in Crimea have deteriorated rapidly.

  • Power Outages: Electricity supply has been disrupted in several areas, including Sevastopol.
  • Fuel Shortages: Long queues have formed at petrol stations as fuel supplies become increasingly limited.
  • Fuel Rationing: Authorities have introduced partial fuel rationing and quota-based distribution for civilians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that the country is facing fuel shortages and described the situation as challenging.

Diplomatic Efforts Face Another Setback

Ukraine recently proposed a mutual suspension of long-range strikes in an attempt to reduce hostilities. However, President Putin rejected the proposal.

According to Putin, the proposal was intended to give Ukrainian forces time to recover, and Russia is not willing to ease its military strategy.

Growing Public Dissatisfaction Inside Russia

As the war continues with no clear end in sight, signs of public frustration are reportedly increasing within Russia. According to reports, more than 137,000 searches were made on Russia's leading search engine Yandex this week asking, "When will Russia end this war?" The highest search volumes reportedly came from Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Meanwhile, a Moscow court sentenced opposition deputy leader Maxim Kruglov to seven years in prison for social media posts criticizing the Russian military.

War Continues to Escalate

The Russia-Ukraine war has evolved far beyond a conventional border conflict. Drone attacks, missile strikes, and assaults on energy infrastructure have intensified on both sides. Rising civilian casualties, worsening energy shortages, fuel rationing, and stalled diplomatic negotiations are making the conflict increasingly complex and dangerous. The international community continues to closely monitor developments, as the war's outcome could have significant global implications in the days ahead.
