Mauritius plans social media identity checks to curb cybercrime
The government of Mauritius is planning to strengthen its social media oversight using identity verification to combat rising digital fraud, identity theft, and harmful online content, Wearetech reported. Following its 05 June cabinet meeting, the government announced that the ICT ministry will start stakeholder consultations to design a social media identity verification framework. The ministry noted that around 2,300 cases of online abuse and cyber-related incidents have been reported since January 2026,
